DT offers builders and developers opportunity to affordably customize homes
Las Vegas, NV, January 19, 2004 - Genesis Homes, a division of Champion Enterprises, Inc. (NYSE: CHB), today debuted its latest advancement, Customer Design Technology (CDT). Through the use of innovative computer software, CDT allows builders and developers to offer their customers the opportunity to affordably customize Genesis homes to meet their individual lifestyle and needs.
"We know that there are many homebuyers who would like a custom home, but don’t have the time, money, or expertise to pull it together," explained Roger Lasater, Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing for Champion Enterprises. "Through CDT, builders and developers can offer homebuyers the opportunity to personalize the design of their homes through a series of pre-engineered options making the changes completely affordable."
With CDT, customers are able to enlarge bedrooms, add special kitchen designs, and increase the home’s overall square footage. Homebuyers can also modify exterior elements, including shingle color, siding color and type, and even select different exteriors, if they wish.

"No longer do homebuyers have to settle for inflexible, pre-designed production-built homes," added Lasater. "With CDT, the design control resides with the homebuyer, allowing them to choose what floor plan and elevation they prefer."
According to a recent survey of customer preferences conducted by the NAHB Economics Group and published in the book, What 21st Century Home Buyers Want, 29 percent of homebuyers would prefer a custom home built on their own land, yet only six percent actually buy a custom-built home. This preference represents a significant opportunity for builders and developers. By working with Genesis, builders and developers can offer their customers affordable homes, which can be personalized based upon their buyers’ wants and preferences.
To demonstrate its CDT, Genesis constructed "The Jefferson," a 2,130 square foot, two-story home, inside the Las Vegas Convention Center at the 2004 International Builders’ Show. The Jefferson showcases Genesis’ design excellence through its impressive roofline, open floor plan and Energy Star rating.
Just outside the home, Genesis has a theater-style display where company representatives will demonstrate to builders and developers how CDT can help attract new customers and enhance the overall building process. Included in the demonstration will be an explanation on how the Jefferson can be converted from a two-story home design into a ranch design with only the click of a mouse.
"The Jefferson is a prime example of the impressive power given to builders, developers and ultimately consumers, through CDT," said Kevin Flaherty, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Genesis Homes. "We pride ourselves on the beauty and design quality of our homes as well as the tools we provide our builder and developer customers. The CDT is only one example of the items in our Builder’s Toolbox that we provide all to our builder/developer customers."

Genesis’ Builder’s Toolbox contains several elements designed to help builders effectively run their businesses, including a guide to help traditional builders with the transition to off-site construction, a building process video to show homebuyers, and templated sales and marketing materials.
